Legal Authority/Introduction

LEGAL AUTHORITY:

Procedure

  1. Central office staff notifies the SSW and FSOS of the receipt of the order of adoption received from the court clerk.

The SSW:

  1. Verifies the status of the petition and notifies central office staff when the judgment has not been received within one-hundred, eighty (180) days after submission of the report to the court;
  2. Retains responsibility for the case, agency or independent, until the adoption judgment is granted. 1

Practice Guidance

  • After the entry of the order of adoption by the court, the clerk of the court mails a notice or copy of the judgment of adoption to central office staff in the Department for Community Based Services.

Footnotes

  1. Periodic checking with the adoptive family to learn the cause of delays in finalization may be necessary. All contacts with the family are reported to central office staff in writing.
